Curriculum

Our curriculum vision

At Burlish Park Primary School, our curriculum is designed to provide an extraordinary education for every pupil. We are committed to ensuring that all children achieve their full potential, develop a lifelong love of learning, and are prepared for the next stage of their educational journey.

Through a carefully crafted, inclusive, and inspiring curriculum, we aim to empower pupils to be confident, curious, and capable learners. By fostering respectful relationships and nurturing individual talents and interests, we create opportunities for all children to flourish academically, socially, and personally.

Our curriculum encourages aspiration and drives achievement, enabling pupils to contribute positively to society and to their extraordinary futures. With a focus on skills, knowledge, and character development, we equip every child to thrive in an ever-changing world and to realise their limitless potential.

Our curriculum aims to provide every pupil with an extraordinary education, enabling them to:

  • Understand the importance of sustainability.
  • Work well with others in their communities.
  • Act fairly and equally.
  • Think creatively, solving problems by exploring ideas.

To achieve this, the curriculum focuses on teaching foundational knowledge. Pupils build on this knowledge through repeated learning and new experiences, helping them understand and connect with what they learn. Over time, they form a "tapestry" of knowledge that becomes stronger and more meaningful.

The curriculum also encourages pupils to take pride in their work and appreciate others' achievements. Connecting what they learn to real-life situations inspires them to become the positive change they want to see in the world.

Each subject has its core knowledge, which is built step-by-step, like bricks. The "mortar" that holds these bricks together includes big ideas and key concepts that pupils revisit throughout their studies. Lessons are designed to help pupils answer important questions, giving their learning purpose. As they deepen their knowledge, pupils are prepared to become thoughtful global citizens in a rapidly changing world.

Our curriculum wheel aims to express visually the knowledge and characteristics pupils will develop to become global citizens in an ever-changing world.
