To help your child have a happy and successful experience at nursery, we ask parents and carers to:
We use the classroom app Seesaw for learning in school and for remote learning. Seesaw is a way for teachers and children to record and share what is happening in the classroom. Seesaw gives children a place to document their learning, be creative and learn how to use technology. You will be given a QR code to allow your child to sign into Seesaw. Each child gets their own journal and can add things to it, like photos, videos, drawings, or notes.
Teachers approve the activities and give feedback.
We hope that all our children will learn to work and play happily together and to form many friendships. We encourage all children to be kind to each other and to be friends with everyone.
If children are unkind to each other, we encourage them to tell a member of staff and not to retaliate. The problem can be dealt with and resolved immediately. Hopefully this reassures you that good, positive behaviour is very important in our Nursery and we hope you can support us in encouraging this wherever possible.
We help children recognise their learning behaviours by using the animal characteristics. We have a board in the classroom where children can move their name to one of the animals when they have displayed one of the characteristics. For example, if a child was independently attempting a task we would ask them to move to ‘Go for it Gorilla’. Children are given a sticker representing the characteristic. The stickers are a good discussion tool. You may wish to talk to your child about why they received the sticker.
Children will have the chance to choose a library book to share with someone at home. They can change it once a week on library day.
In the Nursery we have lots of lovely toys and resources to play and work with. We would ask you not to allow your child to bring toys from home. Occasionally we may ask the children to bring things from home for a special day or as part of a new theme but we will always let you know beforehand.
In summer, a blue and white check dress may be preferred and we strongly advise children to bring a cap to school to wear during breaktimes, their PE lessons or any learning outside the classroom. Please do not send your child in strappy sandals or Crocs as these are unsafe on the playground.
Pre-loved uniform is available from school. Please ask the school office for more details.
Please order uniform online from My Clothing or Brigade Clothing.
Although not statutory, to get the best from their education your child needs to attend Nursery regularly. We are required to keep a register of the children’s attendance and this is shown on your child’s report at the end of the year. If your child is absent please telephone the school office before 9.30a.m. to let us know why. Attendance at Nursery is important preparation for school life and we would urge you to keep absences to a minimum. If your child does not attend regularly we will offer their place to another child.
If your child is sick in the morning or has been sick during the previous night, he/she should not be sent to school. It is unfair on the child, the other children and the staff who are all susceptible to infection. If your child has sickness and/or diarrhoea, they should not return to school until 48 hours after the last attack.
Please ensure you give us precise details if there is anything we should know about your child’s health, e.g. sight problems, hearing problems, asthma, hay fever, allergies or more serious problems.
PE takes place in the school hall where all the children will take part in games, gymnastics or dance.
On PE days, please send your child to school dressed in blue or black jogging trousers or leggings and a white T-shirt or polo shirt and Velcro shoes (not lace-ups).
During the summer term, PE sessions will take place outside and the children will need a pair of Velcro fastening trainers.
Please encourage your child to be as independent as possible about dressing and undressing, so they are able to do this themselves by the time they enter Reception.
