At Burlish Park Primary we aim to provide a high-quality Art curriculum which will engage, inspire and challenge children. We will encourage children to express themselves in a creative and imaginative way as well as explore ideas and record experiences. We aim to develop the children’s critical thinking skills and well as developing their understanding of art and design. Through carefully planned knowledge and skills based curriculum, the children will know and understand how great artists, architects and designers both reflect and shape our history. As children progress through the year groups, they will build on their mastery of art and design techniques including drawing, painting and sculpture using a range of materials. Children will have the opportunity to evaluate and analyse creative works using the language of art and design. Children will also appreciate, interpret and explain how art has changed over time and continues to change today.
In Early Years, Art and Design plays a very important role in the children’s development. Children are taught to represent their own ideas, thoughts and feelings through the sequences of learning.
They safely use and explore a variety of materials, tools and techniques, experimenting with colour, design, texture, form and function.
Pupils are taught to develop their techniques, including their control and their use of materials, with creativity, experimentation and an increasing awareness of different kinds of art, craft and design.
They have the opportunity:
Creativity and uniqueness are celebrated and children are given the opportunity to become confident at editing and improving the pieces they have created. As teachers, there is an emphasis placed on individuality and children will be given the freedom to explore art using their imaginations.
Children will have become creative learners, who have great knowledge about some of the great artists of the world. Children will have embedded the key art and design skills needed to allow them to produce inventive pieces of art.
