Assessment

Assessment is an integral part of teaching and learning at Burlish Park Primary School, driving improvement for pupils and teachers. It helps to track pupil progress against National Curriculum objectives and enables us to give reliable information to parents about their child, and how their child’s school is performing.

Each year group is expected to master a set of age-related objectives from the National Curriculum to meet the expected standard for their age. Teachers continually assess progress towards these to inform planning and identify pupil targets.

We use an assessment tracking system called Scholar Pack Simple Assessment, which has three assessment points at the end of each term. Throughout the year, children will be assessed to identify if they have met the Age Related Expectations (ARE) for their year group.

Early Years (Reception and Nursery)

Pupils’ attainment is compared to the expectations for their year group. Attainment is graded in the following bands and is given a code:

At developing: Pupils who are just working within the expectations for their year group.

Below: Pupils who are working at the appropriate age curriculum, but who have not yet secured all of the expected learning for their year group.

Well below: Pupils who are not yet working on the objectives linked to their year group.
